The long and winding story of how Mark Zuckerberg (Jessie Eisenberg) invented the popular website all the grandmothers are on these days called Facebook. The story is told through depositions from Zuckerberg’s former best friend claiming he was screwed out of shares of the company and twins from Harvard who claim to have the idea first. Justin Timberlake plays Sean Parker, one of the guys that invented Napster. The Movie is directed my David Fincher (Se7en, Zodiac) and written by Aaron Sorkin (West Wing, A Few Good Men). The story leaves you wondering who really did invent Facebook?
I thought this was fascinating. It’s crazy to watch a movie about such a craze that is happening right now. I think every party has a case here and it doesn’t really leave you with a conclusion. Eisenberg was great and I don’t really like him. Zuckerberg is not a likable guy so maybe that’s why I thought Eisenberg was good. I love Justin Timberlake but I thought he was not very good in this. I think he was playing a character and I didn’t like it. Great movie. Even if you don’t have much of an interest in it, you will enjoy it. If you are looking for something to see I guarantee you will like this.

_____________________ Dinner for Schmucks The latest comedy from director Jay Roach (Austin Powers) has Tim (Paul Rudd) looking for a promotion at work. In order to get the promotion he has to attend a dinner with his coworkers where each one tries to bring the biggest idiot they can find so they can all make fun of them. Enter Barry (Steve Carell) who enjoys dressing up dead mice as historical figures and making them into pieces of art. Jemaine Clement (Flight of the Conchords) also appears as an eccentric artist that works with Tim’s girlfriend lending to more antics.
This movie is funny. But it also made me a little uncomfortable. It’s one of that those that is “what else could go wrong.” There were several parts that made me laugh out loud. Carell is great as usual and I love Paul Rudd. I never really connected with and it takes a good hour and a half to actually get to the dinner. I think others will like it more than me so I would recommend seeing it.

INCEPTION:
This is the movie I have been waiting for all year. Christopher Nolan (The Prestige, The Dark Knight) directs and he does not make bad movies. Leo DiCaprio stars in a movie not directed by Martin Scoresese! The plot has been kept under wraps so I won’t spoil anything. Basically, Leo plays a guy who is a corporate thief. He has a way of entering people’s dreams and stealing information. He and his team get hired to see if instead of stealing an idea, they can plant one. From there is becomes a layered trippy suspense action movie. If it sounds a little confusing, it is. But not as much as I thought it would be. You know when you leave a theater and say, “I liked it, but I’m not really sure what happened.” This isn’t one of those.
Wow! This movie blew my mind. I think I set it up to be a little better than it was, but I had high expectations. The layers are really cool along with the visuals. I am not a big Leo fan, but he kills it in this. This might take a couple of viewings just to make sure I got all of it. There is a lot of Best Picture buzz, and this year has been a bad movie year, so look for it come award season. Go see this. This is an intelligent, complex movie and we need more of these.

The
Twilight Saga: Eclipse
The
third installment of the Twilight Saga. Let me begin by saying I
am not much of a fan of these movies and have never read the books. However, I
don’t hate on people that are big fans. So this movie is just more of the same.
Bella loves Edward. He wants to get married. She doesn’t but she does want to
become a vampire. Jacob loves her and displays his love by walking around
bare-chested for the better part of the movie. Who does she pick? Is this
really a mystery since the books are a few years old and millions of people
read them? This one seemed like more of a transition movie to me. It’s really
just setting us up for the final book which has been broken up into two
movies.It’s a little long at 2
hours. Some of the scenes could have been cut down a little. Much better than
the second movie. Lots of laughs! Not really.
A
few things more thoughts: There is a big battle towards the end that
was a little disappointing. I’m not sure that I understand the rules. In the
Twilight world you can kill a vampire by ripping of their arms and their bodies
are made of crystal. Also, when Bella and Edward are starting to cozy up and
talking about “relations” it made me very uncomfortable. I think it’s just that
so many young girls like these movies so much it felt weird. Be prepared for
the next movie because word is it gets pretty steamy.
